The CCN¹ is seeking a new Director
The Centre chorégraphique national d’Orléans (CCNO) is seeking a new Director within the guidelines set out by the ministère de la Culture, Ville d’Orléans, Région Centre-Val de Loire and Département du Loiret.
The CCNO belongs to the network of 19 establishments in France that form the base of the creation, production and distribution of choreographic works defined by decree no. 2017- 432 of 28 March 2017 and the order of 5 May 2017.
The new Director will be entrusted to one or more choreographic artists enjoying national and/or international recognition.
The Director is responsible of an artistic and cultural project carried out in a spirit of cooperation, solidarity and dialogue with the existing structures in the area (especially with the Théâtre d’Orléans, which includes the multidisciplinary national stage), as well as with the various choreographic networks and the cultural sector in the region and beyond.
The CCNO, located in the city centre, in a metropolis of 300,000 residents, has its own premises (1,400 m2). In addition to reception, office and social areas, the CCN building includes three studios, each measuring around 100 m2, and a large studio measuring 300 m2 that can receive the public.
It receives public funding from the State, the City of Orléans, the Centre-Val de Loire Regional Council and the Loiret Department. In 2023, the total public funding reached €1,222,476 out of a total budget of €1,722,566. In addition to the Director, the CCNO employs 10 permanent staff.
The proximity of the Théâtre d’Orléans makes it easier to host the CCN's choreographic proposals and the creations of the artist-director within the establishment. The CCN is a resource for dance and choreographic culture for the Théâtre d’Orléans.
The Théâtre d’Orléans hosts the Scène nationale, which coordinates the management and life of the theatre, as well as the Centre dramatique national d’Orléans (CDNO) and the Centre national de création d’Orléans- Loiret (CADO). Orléans' cultural offering also includes the Scène de Musiques Actuelles (SMAC L'Astrolabe), the Fonds régional d’art contemporain (FRAC), the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Départemental - danse, musique, art dramatique (CRD), the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design (ESAD) of Orléans, the Musée des Beaux-Arts, and the Muséum d’Orléans pour la Biodiversité et l’Environnement (MOBE). Orléans and its metropolitan area also have several theatres on the outskirts. The CCNO's influence extends across the Loiret department, the Centre-Val de Loire region and beyond.
Missions
The CCNO's main mission is to create and produce shows and choreographic approaches. As part of its artistic and cultural project, the management will be responsible to:
- Develop its own creative work.
- Disseminate its productions locally, nationally and internationally.
- Serve as a resource for the Scène nationale and all the CCNO's other partners, in order to develop a dance programme that is open to all aesthetics.
- To be part of a regional dynamic, to develop the dance offer and encourage audiences to encounter choreographic creation, by initiating proposals likely to unite cultural structures at the level of the city of Orléans, the Loiret department and the Centre-Val de Loire region in a constructive dialogue with the CCN de Tours.
- Strengthen the sharing of tools with choreographic companies, with a particular attention to teams from the region, and more broadly by welcoming and supporting choreographic artists of national or international stature, particularly through the Accueil-Studio and Associated Artist residencies.
- Pursue the policy of transmitting choreographic culture, a key aspect of the CCN's missions, particularly to young people and dance enthusiasts, by forging partnerships with cultural, educational and university communities and with associations.
- Assert its role as a reference, guaranteeing diversity, equality and plurality of aesthetics as a place for research and promotion of dance.
- Demonstrate opening to other artistic creation fields.
- Frame its project and actions in the context of the challenges of ecological transition.
- Integrate cultural rights into its activities.
- Ensure administrative, financial and managerial managements of the structure.
- Supervise and lead the team.
- Work with the Presidency to ensure the relations with institutional partners and representation in the various networks.

Candidates are invited to send their applications by 12 April 2024 at the latest. Applications received after will not be considered.
The application includes:
• a cover letter setting out the main lines of the proposed artistic project (2 to 3 pages).
• a detailed curriculum vitae and presentation documents of previous works of the applicant (description of creations, press articles, videos, tour schedule).
Applications must be sent by post mail and e-mail.
A pre-selection committee made up of representatives of the ministère de la Culture, the Ville d’Orléans, the Région Centre-Val de Loire, the Département du Loiret and the association will select a gender parity shortlist.
Shortlisted candidates will then receive documents enabling them to draw up a detailed artistic and cultural project and a budget projection for its full implementation over a 4-year period starting in January 2025.
Applications must be received by 14 June 2024. No applications received after this date will be considered.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the end of June/beginning of July 2024.
The new Director will take up as of 1rst January 2025 for an initial term of 4 years, which may be renewed for two three-year terms.
